Picture of the Week Plus a Little Something Extra

By Eugenio Recuenco.
Mostly because I haven't done a fashion pic in a while but also because it's so fabulously kooky. A windup toy vampire, how can you go wrong?

And here are some pages from my imitation sketchbook.

 My Catherine Campbell page.

 My Brett Manning page.

 My Warwick Goble page.
(don't know if I want to go over the whole page in pen just yet.)

and finally my John Bauer page.

I have really enjoyed this exercise so far and plan on doing a lot more. Some of you may have noticed the pictures here differ from those I posted earlier, the short reason is 'I changed my mind' the slightly longer reason is 'I printed out lots of pics and have just been picking them as my mood takes me, often after I've glued them in I find I have no idea what to do with it and move on.'
Anyway, hopefully I'll have more to share with you at the end of next week.

My To Do List

Today is a beautiful sunny day, but cold as we head into winter (Yes Queensland can be cold). I have many things on my today list.
  1. Write this blog.
  2. Have a shower (very important).
  3. Take little Scooby for a walk.
  4. Get some new cards up on Etsy (This one is WAY overdue).
  5. And practise my craft (in this case art but I should really work on some short stories too).
For number 5 I plan to implement a exercise I read about in the backlogs of Melissa Haslam's Blog, in which she glued a picture of an artist she liked into her visual journal and drew off of it mimicking their style and technique.
The pictures I have chosen to do this with are as follows;

Spring by Alphonse Mucha, 1896.

Island of the Dead by Arnold Bocklin.

 Merlin by Alan Lee, 1999.

 Waiting by Audrey Kawasaki.

 By Brett Manning.

 Andromeda by Edward Burne-Jones, 1888.

 Metamorphoses by Kelly Mckennan, 2009.

And of course the woman who gave me the idea in the first place; Paper Cranes by Melissa Haslam, it was incredibly difficult to choose which of her painting/drawings to use.

The Three Graces

The Three Graces can be found in Greek (Charites) and Roman (Gratiae) mythology. They're really just a version of the triple goddess (maiden, mother and crone) though you'll find in the pictures below all three are pretty young and beautiful. From youngest to oldest they are named: Aglaea ("Splendor"), Euphrosyne ("Mirth"), and Thalia ("Good Cheer")

 Michael Parkes, 2004.

 Peter Paul Rubens, 1636-40.

 George Frederick Watts.

 Gennady Privedentsev.

 Emile Vernon.
Hans Baldung.

Koloman Moser.

Raphael, 1504-5.

Lucas Cranach the elder.

Brett Manning, 2009.
I don’t actually know if this in any way connected to the three graces, but there’re three of them and I like it so I’m going to go with it. (http://brettisagirl.com/)

I'm still in Byron, go home in two days but I don't want leave, I love it here even if I am exhausted from walking everywhere and pretty much being on my feet and doing stuff from 7/8 to midnight or later each day.

Yesterday my cousin and I went shopping and I found a t-shirt with a picture on it by the talented Brisbane artist Courtney Brims at Billabong (and it was half price!)

Today My cousin got an awesome wreath for her hair
and I was sooo jealous I made my own.
Isn't it awesome (it's a few hours old now so it might look a bit limp but in its prime it was the best!!).
