Picture of the Week

I haven't done a Picture of the Week post since January 2012. Shocking I know, especially since it's the easiest post to do, as such I thought I better make this one a twofer.

What interests me here, and the reason I put these two images together, are the similarities in imagery and composition despite the different subject matter and artists. The vegetation in the back ground, young girl's looking down into a body of water, even the goblins and cup in Rackham's piece remind me of the cherub and fish fountain in Robinson's. 

I found both these pictures on one of my favourite boards on Pinterest, Illustration Station by Fiona Lusby.

Picture of the Week: The Siren Girl

The Siren Girl by Kareena Zerefos.

The artist describes this work as "Subtly referencing the seductive yet dangerous 'bird-women' of Greek mythology."

Not only do I love this picture, particularly the look in the girls eyes, but I also love the idea that creatures such as sirens are born and have a childhood, grow up and maybe even die. I think I feel a story hatching (get it, hatching, like a bird. I love bad puns)

It is a miserable day here in sunny Queensland. Rain, thunder, and general gloominess abound. That is why I chose the following as Picture of the Week!

Tlaloc, Aztec god of rain (as well as fertility and water). Today he has caused this foul weather, which I wouldn't mind so much, if I wasn't homely alone with a restless dog (he has finally settled, I just hope it lasts).

Today's picture is from a book I got from the library on Indian art.

Picture of the Week - I changed my mind

I made a diorama yesterday, which is why yesterday's post is today. A sudden whim took hold of me while in the shower, which is when I get most of my whims, especially my whimsical whims. (That was fun).

Anyway the diorama took a lot of time and I decided to use it to make a movie launching my new blog It's Just Hearsay. That's right I changed my mind, I am going to have two blogs, instead of messing with this one. It may mean more irregular posts but I will try my darndest to post at least once a week. It's Just Hearsay will probably be more irregular but it will feature all the happenings of my label Hearsay; sales, market days, new products, old products all with a touch of that kooky crazy mind of mine.

I'm feeling kind of panic-y at the moment, or at least I really was last night. It's time to take a plunge and I'm scared. I'm easily spooked, anything out of my comfort zone (sitting in front of a computer screen in the safety of my own home) scares me but I have to change that. And to change that I have to make a change, So I'm going to apply for the next Young Designers Markets/Bleeding Heart City Markets (one not both) and I'm going to get everything ready in time despite my trip to Sydney the week before they're on, and I'm going to do something a little scary.

Picture of the Week or maybe not

Hey folks. Tonight my arms are tired and my legs are sore. I spent the day plodding around Brisbane city. The main reason for this was to check out Bleeding Heart Gallerie's monthly markets, which were awesome. I bought a pair of fingerless gloves and saw plenty of beautiful jewellery and art. Today was the first day of three in which I plan to attend three different markets. Tomorrow it will be the Finders Keepers market and Sunday I'll pay a little visit to the Young Designers market, at the end of this, not doubt exhausting, weekend I hope to write a review of all three over at Blogcritics and hit up the highlights over here.

Some business cards I picked up, I feel a little guilty because I know I didn't grab everyone's.
There were also some lovely hand made bags with $10 on each bag going to cancer research.

Some of the highlights for me were ruby & lo's cute sweet designs and Kitty Hugo's gorgeous knit jewellery, which is a bit of a thing with me at the moment, almost enough to make me take up knitting.

The book was very VERY slow to start, but after a while I really got into it and found it both enjoyable and thought stimulating.

Picture of the Week

I saw Water for Elephants (Francis Lawrence, 2011) yesterday and I know what you're thinking, does this girl do anything besides watch movies and write this blog? And the answer is... of course not, why would I.
The film was good, though I came away unsure how to feel and if you're an animal lover, like myself, you may find parts of the movie painful to watch.

I have really enjoyed this exercise so far and plan on doing a lot more. Some of you may have noticed the pictures here differ from those I posted earlier, the short reason is 'I changed my mind' the slightly longer reason is 'I printed out lots of pics and have just been picking them as my mood takes me, often after I've glued them in I find I have no idea what to do with it and move on.'
Anyway, hopefully I'll have more to share with you at the end of next week.
