Writing by Tarot

I've had a slow start to Camp NaNoWriMo this April but the last few days have been crazy fun... and creative, and rewarding. I've let myself go a little (and there is a card to that affect). I've been using Tarot or 'Healing with the Fairies Oracle Cards' as writing prompts along with the short  story ideas section of John Marsden's 'Everything I Know About Writing' book.

It's been brilliant. I pick a card and work my way through the list of ideas one by one. Then I write a story of any length, genre, or style somehow connected to the two prompts.

At the moment I'm on my fifth short story based on the Teddy Bears' Picnic and the Magic of Nature. Two of the earlier stories I feel are worth working on and that's great because...

I'm determined that this year will be the year I am published. Or better yet the year I actually attempt to get published. I'll actually polish of my stories and send them to magazines and enter them into competitions . Even just that will be a triumph, especially if I persist from the rejection that's sure to come.

Wish me luck, and good luck to you and all your big plans for the year, writerly or otherwise.

Costume Design Guild Awards 2013 - The Winners

This is my first post from my new apartment. Think seveneties... red and brown tiling in the kitchen, clashing patterns in the bathroom with pink basin and tub. I now sit in the study (which I share with my cousin) partially in front of the window. If I lean to the right I can see the clock tower. I'm eating peanut butter on toast and loving what my life will be like this year, all the while knowing it won't be anything like this at all because I still need to get a job.

But you don't want to hear about me. You want to hear about the winners of the Costume Design Guild Awards who were announced on February 19 (I've been busy ok).

NEWS

So here's the news my lovelies.
I'm in Melbourne, have been (on and off) for three weeks. That's not so very exciting. What is exciting is this Friday I (and my cousin) actually move in to our own apartement! YAY! Of course my possesions won't arrive until Tuesday so I'll be sleeping on an inflatible mattress, but who cares, that inflatable mattress will be in my room (a room not shared with anyone else in the world)!

So that's the big news... In other news...

- I had my first hat making class last Wednesday, look forward to more on that and photos!
- I'm going to be volunteering at L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival next week, thank goodness my clothes will be here by then or I might have spiralled into depression.
- I got into Melbourne Finders Keepers Market!! That's pretty big news too, come visit me at the Royal Exhibition Building on the 5th or 6th of April.
- And last but certainly not least I'm doing NanoWrimo early this year, in April with Camp NanoWrimo!

Now I've used up all my enthusiasm and exclamation marks so I best off.
Have a great day! (I had one more in me)

Minka Svarcs

Minka Svarcs is a Melbourne based artist, which I thought was fitting due to my recent move. To quote directly from her website, she's "putting the world living inside and around [her] down on paper."

Here's a few of my favourites from her site,

Maybe now I'm living in Melbourne I'll be able to go to some of my fave Melbournian artists' exhibitions.

Getting into Apps

OK so the post title may indicate that I'm monumentally behind the times. This may or may not be true. I use apps, I have a tablet, but until now I've only used them in the most basic of ways. I'm making this post on my tablet via the blogger app  and earlier today I practised using the pinterest  app. Why have I made this step up in the world? Well I'm thinking of making a Samsung Note II my next phone and I want to make sure it's not wasted on me.
Let's give this thing a good old try....
I don't know how to integrate the photos  but I did try, maybe I'll have to post online rather than through the app. Any advice is much appreciated.
The pictures are of the wood grain contact I bought for my dollhouse project (With me moving to Melbourne in two days do not expect an end to this project), and the cover of my Inside HBO's Game of Thrones book which I was given for Christmas.
Have a good day and let all your apping go better than mine :-)
